Rice water is very, very, easy to make. Rinse 1/4 cup organic white rice. Add it to 1/2 cup filtered water. Let it sit for 15 – 20 minutes. Stir it around and you will see that the water has become milky like in the photo. That is your rice water! Pour it into a small bowl and you are ready to use it…
A rice water toner stimulates cell growth, calms and brightens the skin. Used extensively in Asia, rice powder, water and scrubs are well known to brighten the complexion. Rice water contains amino acids including ferulic acid – an antioxidant, and allantonin, an anti-inflammatory. To use as a toner just dip the cotton ball in and wipe across your face. You can keep it in the refrigerator for about a week.
Another use for rice water is as a hair rinse. You will probably want to double the recipe. Just pour it over your scalp and hair after shampooing. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and rinse out. It should add strength and shine.
Another very easy DIY beauty product is Rice Facial Cleanser. Just add enough of the rice water* to organic white rice four to make a smooth paste.
Gently apply the paste evenly across your face and massage in circular motion for about a minute, then rinse off. This adds exfoliation to the above mentioned brightening and toning properties of rice water. I find it gentle and effective. And so easy to prepare you may as well give it a go!
