I have wanted to try some cosmetics from LUSH for a long time.  I have really loved some of the hair products, the solid deodorant, and the body butters for several years and just now finally went for a mascara and a foundation.

The foundation is actually everything I wanted it to be until I looked up the ingredients and found several parabens involved. So, I typed in ‘paraben safety’ in the search bar and they posted several articles defending their use of parabens yet ended by saying that they are dedicated to finding alternatives and hope to have paraben-free formulas in the near future.  So, for me, that info was a major buzz kill. I really like the tint; it matches my skin almost perfectly.  And, I really like the texture.  Its pretty sheer and pretty matte, so great for summer and buildable for use as concealer.  Darn those parabens!!!  I will certainly use it up as they claim to use minimal amounts etc.  And I will have to wait and see if they come up with a new and improved paraben-free formula.

I am sure you can guess what the issues are with this mascara… who on earth came up with this brush?  I did buy it at a store, as opposed to online, so I can blame myself for not recognizing the obvious awkwardness, but I thought maybe it would work out… it didn’t.  It’s not even so much the shortie aspect, but the bulky cap which makes it super unusable.   So, I used a brush form an old mascara that I washed off, but then the question of how to store that wand etc.  AND this mascara also has parabens and PVP in the ingredient list.  I don’t think I will be waiting for a new formula AND new product design when there are so many other vegan mascara options out there.  (also the price tag for such a poorly designed product – $19.95)

The saving grace of this shopping experience gone awry was the solid deodorant.  This is actually my favorite deodorant and I have purchased it several times before.  As you can see, the price is right ! $3.43 for a good sized chunk that I know from experience will last almost a year!  And it smells so good…

I am sorry that these things didn’t work out as I had high hopes.  It is my fault for not scrutinizing the ingredients ahead of time but that just proves that you can’t assume anything especially with such huge brands.  The ideal is to buy smaller, more local brands or even shop on etsy.  It’s really the lesson to learn here.  I hope this may have helped anyone who was also looking forward to these products…
